Shams Power Company achieved a significant safety milestone in September, reaching two million safe man-hours without lost time injury at the Shams power plant in Abu Dhabi.

Inaugurated in March 2013, the 100 MW concentrated solar plant was at the time the largest renewable energy project in operation in the Middle East.

Shams’ latest safety landmark comes just over two years after reaching one million safe man-hours in July 2019.

Mustapha Boucif, Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality Manager at Shams Power Company, said the “remarkable milestone” was testament to the hard work and diligence of staff.

‘Fariiq Wahad’ meaning ‘one team’ in Arabic symbolizes Shams’ HSE culture and spirit and was key to the continuous improvement witnessed throughout the years to achieve a world-class safety performance.

“Special appreciation must go to everyone for their continuous hard work enabling us to reach this remarkable milestone,” he added. “Working without a serious incident is a great achievement requiring more than just luck. Our full commitment to HSE at all levels, from headquarters to the field, enabled us to enhance our existing provisions to prevent occurrence of any serious risk.” added Mustapha.
